We just recently sold our home after living in it for over 7 years. It’s amazing how many things you accumulate as a family over the years. The material things and the memories had certainly piled up in every space and closet in our home.
We had some things that we labeled:
Junk
Keeper
Why do we even have this item
For sale
Give away
And the list goes on and on.
Boxing up everything was definitely a process but we did it, and with the help of some good friends, we made the move. I learned a lot from the moving process and not just about moving from a house. I began to think about the journey of life and trying to reach our God given purpose and destiny. When you want God to open up a new door, you have to first close the old one.
Here are a few things that I learned from the whole ordeal.
1. If you want to go to a new place then you will have to move on from the old place.
This was hard because we had been there for 7 years and had so many good memories. This was the first home that we had bought together. This is the home that our kids came home to from the hospital when they were born. We had our melt down moments as we reflected on all the good memories and things we loved about our home and neighborhood. We realized that moving on didn’t mean that we had to let go of friends and the memories that we had made during our time in the house.
2. Moving forward requires getting rid of some old things.
Going through our belongings was a chore. We had to make some decisions on what we were keeping and what we were getting rid of. Let’s face it, people have a tendency to collect a lot of things over the years and sometime those things just turn out to be some junk that they have stored. Yeah, that was us…lol. We had collected a lot of junk over the years and simply had to let it go. That’s right let it go…let it go….let it go into the trashcan.
3. You can’t move alone.
Let’s face it, moving is a chore that nobody likes to do. I’ve helped people move before and it is hard work no matter how much you prepare and plan for it. It takes good friends that come along side of you and help you in the process. We were so thankful for the friends in our lives that had the time in their schedules to stop by and give us a hand.
Moving from one place to another in your life’s journey can be scary and exciting all at the same time. It’s filled with a plethora of different emotions that can leave your mind on a roller coaster. You have to learn to let go of what was so you can begin to take the #Next steps towards what will be.
Keep moving forward without regrets…
Look back once in a while and remember the good memories, but also focus on creating new ones…
Don’t let fear stop you…
Don’t let others stop you…
Your destiny awaits you, now GO and Get It!
